Canal Street Pictures was founded by Fay Ann Lee in 2006 as an avenue to produce authentic and entertaining stories about underrepresented segments of our population, with an emphasis on Asian, female and international voices.

CSP’s first project, East Broadway, an Asian American romantic comedy, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2006 to sold out audiences. Film critic Logan Hill picked East Broadway as one of the two best films in the New York, New York Competition (New York Magazine). After its successful festival debut, East Broadway was retitled as Falling for Grace and was released in select theaters around the country. The film was licensed for television around the world, including by Starz in North America. Because of the success of Crazy Rich Asians, Showtime re-released Falling for Grace in June 2019.

Canal Street Pictures also produced Love Hunter, an independent film about a Serbian rock star coming to New York to seek his American dream and ends up driving a taxi to survive. It was a New York Times Critics Pick, calling it “one of the most refreshing independent features.”

Two full length features, Worth and Following Federer are currently in development.
